In addition to his work as a personal injury attorney, he has served as a court-appointed Attorney Ad Litem and Amicus Attorney for children, a mediator, and even as a Visiting Associate Judge for the 254th Judicial District Court in Dallas County. He also made valuable contributions to legal education by working as an Adjunct Professor of Government at Tarrant County College.

In 2008, John became the Managing Partner of The Smotherman Law Firm, where he continues to provide exceptional legal counsel to his clients. Prior to this role, he gained significant experience as an associate at the Nunneley Law Firm.
